Legends . . . bearing a faint impression of Middle Eastern style . . . receives a world-class performance from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim.” — Classics Today

Israeli composer Shulamit Ran served as composer-in-residence of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1990 to 1997, winning the Pulitzer Prize for her Symphony in 1991. Her music is marked by a strong sense of lyricism underpinned by dramatic, colorful contrasts and powerful orchestration. Legends was written in celebration of the twin centennials of the University of Chicago, where Ran served on the faculty, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
