Timpanist-composer William Kraft presents two concerti for timpani with two of today’s leading performers on the instruments. A self-described “neo-Impressionist,” Kraft is a master orchestrator for extended techniques of the timpani. In his Concerto No. 2 and Octopus he writes for a set of 15 drums, handled magnificently by now-Chicago Symphony Orchestra timpanist David Herbert.
